Parihaka

Kia ora everyone, today I am going to tell you how I made my headband for Parihaka celebration day and a liitle bit about Parihaka. So first I got given this type of long glossy paper we got two double sided tape on each side. Then we had to put the two together. We had to messure to the size of my head then mark it. After that I had to  draw a pattern on it. The patterns were called taniko. Once we had drawn it in pencil and showed the teacher we could start in vivid. Once we finshed with the vivid we had to show the teacher and put the paper together around our head. Then we would chose how many feathers you want we could choose from 1 to 3. I chose 3, then we would place the feathers and tape it down. Then your finished!

Here is a photo of mine.

So now I am going to tell you wahy Parihaka is celebrated. So in 1860 Land was bening taken from many Maori tribes in Taranaki. Two strong leaders Te Whiti – o – Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi  set up a settlement for Maori who lost their land and homes.  When the goverment wanted to take this land as well. They protested in a Non – violent way. They wore the white plume, feather to repesent peace. That is why we remember the events of Parihaka every year.

Netball game

In week three on Monday we had a netball game!.  My team is called “The Magic Team”.  In our team we have Me, Honor, Deezhanay, Darcy-Rose, Eliza, Jasleen, Danielle, Mo, Kingston and Jodece. Our coach is Miss Bhula. We were supposed to have two netball games but the first game got cancelled so we automatically won. Our second game was at 6:00 pm. we played against Blockhouse Bay.   I played defense and so did Deezhanay. Honor  and Darcey-Rose played attack, and Eliza and Jasleen were Center.  I was really scared at first but I think I did a very good job. I love playing netball with my friends that is the best thing about netball. It was 2-3 we lost but I think that all of us tried our hardest! We all had a good time.

Here is a Photo from our netball game.
